If you’re a little rusty on knowing how to coordinate outfits with your beau, we’ve got some easy tips to show you how it’s done. This trend is nothing new, in fact, it’s become quite popular lately. Olivia Palermo and her now husband can be found sporting coordinated outfits on the regular. We’re not saying you should always coordinate outfits with your guy, but it can be something fun for you to do together for certain occasions like engagement photos or any special event.

Stick with these easy tips below:

Keep it simple: Start with neutral tones; bold colors and prints can be difficult to match. Once you master the ‘neutral style,’ you can move bold tones!

Choose one ‘trend’ and stick with it: I wore a sleeveless chambray dress (last seen here) and my fiancé, Jordan, wore a chambray shirt. See the theme?

Don’t Overdo it: You want to coordinate outfits to look subtle and effortless, so don’t try and match the outfits to be strikingly similar.  For example, Jordan and I went with different shoe styles, but they both still have a casual and laid back feel.

Side note: I’m pretty obsessed with these Old Navy slip-ons that I bought for Jordan. I’ve officially named them the best men’s shoes of the summer! They go with everything!

This look would be great to wear for something like an engagement photo session, or a casual summer barbecue.

Today we’re showing some different denim outfits that you can wear this summer. We’ve always been a fan of the denim vest because it’s so versatile that you can layer it over dresses, t-shirts or even tanks. If you’re wondering how to wear a denim vest, first try using it as a layering piece over your maxi dresses. We recently wore a maxi layered with a denim vest for a super cute and casual summer look. Another variation would be to layer it over your tanks with skinny jeans and flat sandals. Either way, it’s a classic and will always be one of our favorite layering pieces in the summer.

Another summer denim favorite is the denim skirt! This was a staple back in middle school and high school, and like many fashion trends, it’s coming back around this season. We are obsessed with this one from Gap because it’s more of a pencil skirt rather than a mini. It also has a nice worn-in look to it which is really in right now. However, if you wanted a more polished pencil skirt, go for a dark wash denim for a put-together feel. I paired the skirt with a chambray shirt for a denim on denim look. When you’re trying to mix denim, make sure that they are different shades to make a contrast. You could also pair the denim skirt with a tucked-in, relaxed-fit tank top and flat sandals for a different combination. Throw on a belt to pull the look together! This belt is a great option!

Happy Friday! This is an exciting week because we have so many new announcements! First it was men’s fashionyesterday did we did back to school fashion for kids for our Lawrence Journal-World column, and now this! We are excited to announce another new series we will be posting on the blog every Friday called Face Off Friday! Elizabeth and I will pick one piece of clothing that we will both wear and style two completely different ways. We will share the photos on our Facebook page and you guys vote by ‘liking’ the photo of the outfit you like the best! This is really fun for us because we really do have different styles, and this is our way to show you guys how different we are.

The midi skirt is probably my favorite piece to wear right now. I absolutely love the length because you can wear it with a cropped top without showing too much. It’s so ladylike and classic so you could wear it to work, or with sandals and a tank on the weekends. When I saw this one at Gap, I knew I had to grab it fast! I’m glad I did because it sold out quickly, but don’t worry because we’ve compiled a list of very similar alternatives so you can rock your own white midi skirt this season!

Today we’re excited to introduce you guys to our first weekly menswear fashion post that we will be posting every Wednesday called Rugged & Refined! We’ve been talking about doing men’s fashion on the blog for a while now and it’s finally here! We wanted to show you two different outfits that guys can wear to a summer wedding. The first look would be great for more of a formal indoor summer wedding. We dressed Jordan in a blue suit for a more polished look. Jerry is dressed in a light, seersucker suit for a more casual, laid back feel that would be great for a garden or outdoor wedding setting.

FCT Shoot 6 - 017

We wanted Jordan to have a sleek look in his blue suit, paired with a crisp white dress shirt, and a patterned blue tie. The general rule of thumb when wearing a suit is two patterns and one solid. Jordan’s suit has a subtle pattern and he accessorized with a patterned tie as well. For a more streamlined look make sure the tie is in the same color family as the suit. He went with a Calvin Klein extreme slim fit suit which we love because it’s a really modern and tailored cut that fits him well. Navy and brown pair well together which is why we chose a brown belt and shoes.

When picking out a suit, it’s important to choose a style that fits your body type. If you buy a finished suit off the rack from a store like Banana Republic or J. Crew, don’t be afraid to have it altered even more for the perfect fit.

FCT Shoot 6 - 014

We love tie bars because it serves as a practical accessory. Not only will it keep your tie in place, but it’s also a sleek accessory.FCT Shoot 6 - 018

Jerry is wearing a seersucker suit that is perfect for a casual setting like an outdoor wedding. The seersucker suit is one that is strictly for the summer season. This suit style really makes a statement especially paired with his blue suede shoes. This is a great way to show your creative style. Since it’s such a bold suit, keep it simple with a solid white dress shirt. Jerry also matched his bow tie with his shoes to balance out the look.

For a guy who wants to accessorize, nothing beats a watch to complete the look! Jerry kept his watch neutral with a brown leather band.

Most of you probably have at least one wedding to attend this summer so we thought we’d share a few looks that would be perfect to wear. The main rule we stick with is to stay away from wearing white – leave that for the bride! We wanted to wear something fun and summery so we both went with a colorful print. Since the prints are so bold, we kept our shoes rather neutral. I picked out one color (blue) from my printed dress and accented that with a blue clutch. Elizabeth chose a maxi dress, which is totally appropriate for a summer wedding. However, stay away from cotton maxi dresses because the material will make it look too casual. Instead, Elizabeth went with a silky chiffon fabric which makes it perfect for an evening wedding. You also want to make sure the length of the maxi dress just sweeps the ground when you’re wearing it with heels. (It was a little windy when we shot these so Elizabeth’s dress flew up a bit at the bottom, but the length barely touched the ground). HINT: Get it altered if needed! There’s nothing worse than wearing a high water maxi dress or one that’s too long.

Thank you to Mike Gunnoe for these fabulous photos!

We love easy summer dresses that you can throw on when it’s really hot outside. The chambray shirt dress is a must for summer because you can dress it up or down, plus it’s made of a very light weight fabric. We both styled them with neutral sandals and minimal jewelry. You could also wear them with HIGH top or LOW top Converse sneakers for a sporty vibe or strappy heels for evening. Either way, this dress style looks great on any body type and any age. You can find them just about anywhere, but we found these gems from Old Navy and Gap.

Thank you Jerry Wang Photography for the lovely photos!

Summer is all about wearing fun colors, flowy dresses, and being comfortable, right? You can really do no wrong with a summer maxi dress.  We found these two beauties from Old Navy.  The yellow is the ultimate summer hue and compliments Elizabeth’s tan.  I love my eyelet maxi in baby blue.  Don’t be afraid to wear a bold color and keep it easy going with a light maxi this summer!

Outfit 6

We introduced you guys to the C.A.B. Collection handbags a couple weeks ago when we did the giveaway, and we had a few photos leftover from that shoot. Elizabeth is wearing a C.A.B. waist pouch that doubles as a belt, which is simply amazing! The waist pouch is light weight and is a chic way to sport the ‘fanny pack.’ Elizabeth’s dress is flowy so belting it would be a great choice to give it some shape. We love that you can use this as a waist pouch and a belt!

Here are a few more of our favorite C.A.B. Collection handbags:

Plate -3

When I first saw that the Birkenstock sandals were back in style, I was a little hesitant to try them. My first thought was they don’t necessarily fit in with my style. However, recently I’ve had a change of heart and saw that not only are they extremely comfortable, but they can be worn with so many different things in your closet that I couldn’t pass them up. I typically don’t invest when I’m trying out a really popular trend that I’m unsure of at first. That’s why I decided to scoop these ‘Birkenstock-inspired sandals’ up from Target instead of buying the real thing. Everyone from Zara to Forever 21 have designed their own look-alike. The inspired versions have an updated look with more structure and colors, especially metallic. The real Birkenstocks are anywhere from $80 – $120 depending if you find them on sale. Unless you’re sure they will fit in with your style, then I would suggest trying out a similar style at a lower price point.

Here are some ALTERNATIVE options to the Birkenstock:
